As part of the initiatives S-Step to the Museum, promoted by the Tuscany Region, the Barsanti and Matteucci Internal Combustion Engine Museum, in collaboration with Artchildren, on September 4th and 11th, organizes the September camps for girls and boys aged between 5 and 10 years old
Art and science are closer than you might think.
Artists and scientists are driven by a passion for discovery, curiosity about the world, and a desire to proceed through trial and error. During our afternoons, we'll explore the knowledge of the Barsanti and Matteucci Museum, exploring the inventors of the internal combustion engine, the workings of their minds, and the precious legacy they left behind.
Friday, September 4th – 3:00 PM – 6:30 PM
In every scientific discovery, beyond the formula and its definition, there is a discoverer: it is not just measurements, deductions, but also patience, genius, errors, courage, vision.
We will arrive at this discovery by exploring its protagonists, the anecdotes of their lives, and the colors of the society in which it all happened, to recount and bring the wonder of discovery into dialogue with the actual flow of the world.
Small portable theaters: we will create small sets that can narrate through images the genius of the two scientists and the world as it was!
Deperian automatons: what if we tried to look at the museum's characters as marionettes with rigid, mechanical movements? Ingenious characters who evoke the values of great discoveries?
Friday, September 11th – 3:00 PM – 6:30 PM
Venturing into pistons, gears, mechanisms, and crankshafts can be an incredible, unusual, and extraordinary journey. Unfamiliar to everyday language and experience, discovering them will be a unique opportunity, suitable for everyone! Because the only necessary ingredient is curiosity.
Starting from the reading of kamishibai The Mechanical Country, We will design and build possible cities, with mechanisms and logic, imagination and art. We will explore the cities of the future, building on past discoveries, exploring the relationship between humans and technology, and building more aware and creative communities.
The workshops take place inside the Barsanti and Matteucci Internal Combustion Engine Museum, at Via Sant'Andrea 56-58 in Lucca.
On both afternoons, we'll have the opportunity to explore the museum and experience it as guests, scientists, and artists. And of course, we'll see the machines in action!
We'll also have a snack together; parents are asked to let us know if they have any food intolerances or any other dietary concerns.
Target audience: boys and girls aged 5 to 10
Minimum number for activation: 5 children
Cost: 20 euros for each workshop.
