The Barsanti and Matteucci ETS Foundation

The Barsanti and Matteucci ETS Foundation, with headquarters in Lucca in via S. Andrea n. 56, was established, on the initiative of the Rotary Club Lucca, on June 4, 2003, on the occasion of the 150th Anniversary of the Invention of the Internal Combustion Engine.

The Foundation pursues its goals thanks to the financial contributions of the Founders and Participants (art. 9 Statute). Liberal contributions can be deducted from income provided they are made through traceable payment systems.

Lo The purpose of the Foundation is to to spread the story of the two scientists from Lucca, Eugenio Barsanti and Felice Matteucci, and their invention: the first functioning internal combustion engine in history.

The Foundation promotes initiatives aimed at engaging young people to the world of mechanics and to spread knowledge on topics related to the sustainability of transport.

The Foundation operates through the management of the Internal Combustion Engine Museum located in Lucca, in via Sant'Andrea, in the historic center.

The Foundation also has the task of to encourage research with prizes and scholarships in the fields of mechanics and technology, with particular emphasis on the motor vehicle sector and the use of more sustainable fuels.

The Foundation collaborates with organizations and institutions, especially schools, to spread scientific culture.

The Foundation organizes cultural events and demonstrations with reference to the historical evolution of science, technology and engineering and to future prospects.
